TINY RUINS RELEASE NEW SONG AND VIDEO, WATCH "HOLOGRAMS"
This week, New Zealand’s Tiny Ruins have released a new song, Holograms. Their new album Olympic Girls is out worldwide on February 1st.
Tiny Ruins by Si Moore
“Tiny Ruins, which originated as frontwoman Hollie Fullbrook’s solo songwriting project, has always been a nesting place for spare, delicate melodies and verses full of natural imagery and big ideas. But there’s nothing delicate about this latest batch of singles: ‘Olympic Girls’ is warm, full and unexpected—a lively flute finds a home next to electric guitar; Fullbrook’s smooth alto sighs along with clashing cymbals. ‘Holograms’ is just as beautiful, and it’s one of Fullbrook’s biggest ideas yet.” - Paste

The first single '$GNMS' premiered on Clash Magazine last week and is now available to stream everywhere! This track is best described as a sci-fi reinvention of 'Money Gnomes', the opening song of their 2014 self-titled album, and an indicator of how the band's sound has shifted towards the creatively dramatic.

Hamish Kilgour (The Clean) Announces Second Solo LP, Finklestein
Announcing Hamish Kilgour’s new album, Finklestein!
Hamish was generous enough to let us work with him on his first solo album, and apparently, we didn’t piss him off in any awful way, because we are back four years later with his second! Like before, I don’t know if “solo” is really appropriate, since he has a stageload of people assisting him here, but I would guess he had say on final cut, which is no doubt highly valued when you are most known for being in a band you share with your sibling (that band is The Clean, ok? The Clean. Ever heard of The Clean???) Finklestein takes Hamish’s mad creative instincts and lets it loose over a lightly themed album, based on a fairytale he conceived for his son. While Finklestein is the name of the imaginary kingdom he invented, the record Finklestein sounds like this entire world showed up to play an instrument.
Here are two songs for you from this glorious and colorful release, just to give a sense of the breadth:
For those early birds who love their Hamish, there’s a Finklestein Special Edition, which includes Funklestein, an entire second LP of music created to complement it’s cohort release. This bonus LP, limited to 50 copies and vinyl only, provides two psychedelirious side long tracks (Side A: “Reaction” & Side B: “Action”) using the same musicians and studio as Finklestein proper.
Click here for Hamish Kilgour’s Finklestein preorder. Album is out June 22nd!
