Hawthonn are the Leeds-based duo of Layla and Phil Legard, who blend the occult, the feminine and the mystic through an exploration of synthesized sounds, sparse folk horror melodies, and a lush production nothing short of consuming.

Meet our first release of the year, and it's a good one! Last year's was Julie Byrne, so trust us here, this is the real deal. Wooing are a Brooklyn-based trio comprised of Rachel Trachtenburg (Prettiots, Supercute!, Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players), JR Thomason (R. Stevie Moore) and Rosie Slater.

Roy's albums may come out on our sister label Grapefruit, but he's part of our family, too. We couldn't convince him to make it all the way to the States, but he'll be in Europe this November, hitting such events as Le Guess Who? Festival. Say hi to him for us.

TALsounds and Matchess are hitting the road for a couple weeks this July, so if you're on the East Coast, you're in luck. Earlier this month we released Love Sick, TALsounds' debut LP. Natalie Chami's project centers on her ability to multitask with loops, synthesizers, beats, effects. She may be one human onstage, but the sonic presence is far greater. We present you a follow up to the 'Seaworthy' video premiered on Impose, with added creepy eldritch footage at the end. It's a song from last years In The Sodium Light.
The video begins with the same dark, ominous tones that the band has showcased in years past. A slow motion shot of the sea, the title shown across the skyline as if written on a waving pirate flag. Tarot cards scattering across a painting of a 6 eyed mermaid gargoyle. And then a woman in a coffin. But it’s Maryrose, and she’s singing with her eyes closed. The video takes its time swapping between scenes as if its storyline is being performed on stage. The lighting, the stage pieces, it’s all a work of art. Add Maryrose’s gorgeous, sultry vocals into the mix with a little help from the strings, and this song – and its matching video – is a fairy tale come to life.

New Zealand's most goth atmospheric rockers are currently touring the US in support of a few excellent releases - namely this year's In The Sodium Light. They've also announced a reissue of their 1998 classic A Dream of the Sea, coming at you for the first time on LP.

Our very own Renderers scored their first feature film, notes to eternity, a documentary on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Their stark music fits the soundscape of the lives and ideas of four renowned critics of Israel: Noam Chomsky, Sara Roy, Norman Finkelstein and Robert Fisk, sharpening perspective on the nature of the issue that transcends historical and cultural lines. The film was screened in last year's New Zealand International Film Festival. Critics described notes to eternity as "an impressive and affecting film, an inspired and inspiring example of world class craft." Director Sarah Cordery and her team have started an IndieGoGo campaign to raise funds for post-production. You can watch the trailer for the film and support their campaign here.
