"Monaural charts the highways and byways of inner and outer space, but the groups also indulges a subterranean dub aesthetic - sculpting thick, hypnotic soundscapes against a relentlessly low pulsebeat." -Raleigh Spectator
Monaural shifted from their much-heralded first release, a 12" on Burnt Hair records, with Monitor Interference. Where the 12" offered two long form spacey rock songs, their first album picked up elements of electronic music, dub and jazz, combining in a way not dissimilar to what makes people go gaga over Boards of Canada today. By recording live instrumentation into their computers, Monaural managed to keep life and breath as they gliched and teched their sound towards experimental new heights.
